Twitter – what it is & why I love it!

Friday, May 8th, 2009

There are a lot of my friends who don’t see the point of twitter; they sign up for accounts, but they don’t start to follow anyone apart from the odd celebrity & maybe one friend who probably never even updates anyway. Oh, and me – cos I’m the one that nagged at them to come and join the fun in the first place!

Twitter!

What you have to understand about Twitter is that it’s not really just a series of meaningless updates. The thing I hear most often is “why would I care what so-and-so had for breakfast anyway?” – the funny thing is about this is you then get the very same people having conversations about diets, recipes, all time favourite breakfast cereals.. when they are talking about breakfast in person. The fact that my coworkers spend at least 5 minutes a day discussing what they had for dinner the night before proves that you do care about what your friends are eating! Twitter is a conversation too, you just have to join in.

If your friend has coco pops for breakfast then give them props for admitting to love a childish breakfast cereal, and admit you love it to! If they send a tweet saying that they’re having muesli then give them your opinion on the foul stuff, and commend them for being healthy. And that’s just breakfast! Conversations I’ve had on Twitter in the last few weeks include: my favourite mac/iPhone software, pets, cross stitch, Counting Crows (I actually had a mini convo with the lead singer of my fav band!), my wedding, men’s flaws, and my favourite tv shows!

Things I love Thursday

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

This has been a good week, it’s time to share the love :-). The things I love this week, are..

tilt

James getting a new job

As some of you may know, James’s current job has been a bit shaky lately, with the recession kicking in and all that. So he decided to look for a new job at Easter, and has been applying to things since then. He had a few interview offers, the third of these being last Friday at a company in Stratford – and I’m very pleased to say he got the job! The interview was at 4pm, and they offered him the job less than two hours afterwards! I’m a very proud wife right now. He’s actually really excited to be starting a new challenge, as it is something completely different to what he does now; currently he does web development, converting designs into functioning sites – the new job will be about developing an in house system. Still using the same technologies though – PHP & MySQL. Yay for James!

Twitnote going live

I’m still not over my excitement about our new site going live, I’m really proud of what James & I accomplished together. There are lots of ideas in the pipeline still about Twitnote, so no doubt you’ll be hearing about those soon! I’m finding it really useful for sending myself links & things – a lot nicer than my old method of emailing myself with a link & cluttering up my inbox. The bit.ly service is great for this because you can use the bookmarklet to shorten the link of the page you’re on, then tweet it to @twnote to share with your twitter followers and remind yourself of the link!

Building up my design portfolio

At the moment I’m working on several projects, which is great because I really want to build up my design portfolio and see if I can earn some money from my hobby (or at least break even on what I pay for my web hosting!). My current project is Pure Genius.

Roast Beef, yum

Last night I cooked Roast Beef, and it was yum – my roast potatoes were delightfully fluffy and crispy at the same time. That is all.

BookMooch

Yay for new books! I just got two in the post today – Going the Distance by Christina Jones, and the next Kathy Reichs that I need, Monday Mourning. I’m looking forward to reading them! It’s so nice to have a good long “to read” list and to have given away some books that I didn’t want – and all it’s cost is the postage! Read more about BookMooch in my previous post about it.

Other things that get my love this week are: the sunshine today as it’s made me feel all bouncy walking to & from work, Melton Mowbray pork pies, Cadbury Clusters, listening to Counting Crows on my iPhone,

Twitnote is officially live!!

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Twitnote is a notebook for Twitter, which allows you to store those random pieces of information that don’t really belong anywhere else – all you need to use it is a twitter username & password. We’ve built it so that it has some good note management tools – you can star, archive, delete, tag, email & retweet notes right from your Twitnote home page. Along with all that, you can search your notes & export them to a csv file to import into other applications.

Twitnote | Make notes with Twitter

Every user has a public page1 with an RSS feed built in – you can choose which notes you want making public, and you can control whether you want all the notes you send to us to be public by default. To use Twitnote, all you have to do to send us a note is to mention or direct message @twnote. You can add a new note right from Twitnote interface as well.

Another neat feature of Twitnote is that we have built in a SMS feature – just text a UK mobile number with the text “twnote blah blah blah” and that’s another note added :-). Useful for when you don’t want to boot up a twitter app to send a note to yourself.

Anyway, please check out Twitnote & see for yourself whether it’s any good or not – please let me know what you think!
