New Sofas Are In The Building!

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I got up unpleasantly early this morning in order to clear and clean the living room in preparation for the arrival of our new sofas…

Homily enjoyed rolling around the empty floor:

And now they’ve been delivered, hurrah!

They are bigger and taller than our old sofas so they look massive, but I think that’s only because I need to get used to them – they are not giant sofas or anything, but our old sofas were diddy in comparison1. Pretty colours and gorgeous tactile fabric too.

Most importantly, they are super super comfy!

  1. These sofas are called ‘Campbell‘ and are from the Vibe range at DFS, if you’re interested. We got them in the sale, and as you know there is always a sale at DFS :-D. [↩]

Our Bedroom is DONE!!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Ok, so this is what our bedroom looked like before we started…

Bedroom 1

Bedroom - Before Bedroom - Before

Complete with really dodgy wallpapering…

With Carly’s help, we stripped off the wallpaper to remove some lovely smooth plastering…

Bedroom - In Progress Bedroom - In Progress

And painted the walls and woodwork white (we needed to undercoat the walls)…

Creepy white walls

And then painted the walls blue…

Colours In progress

We put back the furniture, and we were done!

We even put up shelving, which are perfectly level! The ceiling isn’t though, so they look wonky!

Level New shelves!

And now I am so happy cos I have a large proportion of my books in the bedroom! There is just one little bookshelf left downstairs, and a shelf or two in the spare room too.

Books! New shelves

What do you think??

IKEA, Maypole Dancers & X Factor, oh my!

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Time for a bit of a catch up – I’ve been busy being ill (heatwaves are not nice to headache sufferers, especially ones who’s medication stocks are a bit low) & decorating & general busy-ness, so I haven’t blogged much recently. Some events that have been happening in the last week or so…

We went to IKEA and spent too much money on stuff for the house, redecorating has led to furniture re-arrangement plans, so we have bought extra shelving & stuff, blinds for the spare room, lots of storage boxes.. and a completely impractical sheepskin rug – my birthday present to myself! Homily seems to think this is hers, mind:

We also went to Bournville Festival – the maypole dancers were very cute but did get a tad confused when they were walking off!!!

On Monday we had the day of work & went to watch the X Factor auditions at the ICC in Birmingham City Centre. It was great fun, and we saw some brilliant people, some mediocre people, and some absolutely dire people! A couple were real side splitters! There were a bunch of hippies that just came on & sang some African tribal campfire song (out of time and out of tune), announced that Glastonbury was far too mainstream, and got very offended when Simon said no! I think quite a few from our day will be on the telly. One of them might even be in the ‘take them on holiday’ stage.

We Have Paint!!

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Success! We took a trip to the DIY store today and spent a chunk of money (thank you lovely landlord!) on painting supplies, including over 35 litres of paint! We have rollers, brushes, filler, white spirit, dust sheets, wallpaper stripper, sandpaper, masking tape.. you get the picture.

I’m quite excited to start painting. Even though we don’t own our house it will be really nice to put our own stamp on it & decorate it nicely. Whoever did the decorating previously did not do a very good job and the walls are different shades of the same colour – as if they forgot what colour they bought when they went to buy another tin! The wallpapering is all a bit dodgy as well, we will have to spend some time repairing it where it’s peeling, and trimming off  the places where they decided to have a bit extra sticking up at the top, randomly.

We even managed to get a great discount from the people at the shop because when we went to get our ‘dulux mix’ paint mixed in the machine, the can crumpled – there were very loud banging noises, yellow paint all over the place – it was all very dramatic! To make up for us having to pay extra to get durable matt instead of regular matt (after they ruined the last regular matt tin), they gave us £10 off our entire trolley of goodies – which came to over £270!

So yay, we are actually under our original budget – but with better paint, more than we planned to get originally, and a few more tools we hadn’t originally planned to get! I love it when things work out like that. The whole thing with the mixing machine was highly amusing as well; James, the assistant & I were all in fits of giggles when we saw what it had done to the paint can.

Tomorrow, after work: time to rearrange some furniture and prepare the spare room for painting on Saturday & Sunday. Then it’s our room next, then the hallway, and finally the living/dining room downstairs. Yay! I like a good project, I think this is going to be very fulfilling :-)
