Announcing SOBSIPAAATC!!

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Don’t blame me. Chad made it up. Blame him.

SOBSIPAAATC is a club for people who suffer from chronic pain conditions, and have to deal with the trials & tribulations that ensue, most notably the weird & not-so-wonderful side effects that pain medications have.

If you suffer from a chronic pain condition & empathise with us, please feel free to join! We are a friendly bunch who don’t judge each other for having the odd (almost daily) moan about our pain or having to take medication that makes us spaced out, nauseous, drowsy, etc!

Ok, I admit it. This site is for the giggles, just a little bit. That acronym was too good to resist.

Kinda a weird coinky-dink that we made it up during Invisible Illness Awareness Week though.

Go take a look!

Epilespy Petition – Please sign this!

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Hello my lovely readers,

Please do me a favour & take a minute out of your day to sign the following petition (you have to live in the UK).

The proposed changes to prescribing proposals will affect my husband along with many others at risk. His condition is very sensitive to medication changes & it could cause a big problem with his seizure control if this proposal goes ahead – as well as for anyone else who suffers from epilepsy.

“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ensure an exemption for epilepsy from the new generic prescribing proposals, on the grounds that the active ingredients in different brands of anti-epileptic medication can legally vary by up to 45% and that unnecessarily switching between versions can have a profound negative effect on a person’s health and quality of life, can cause breakthrough seizures, worsening of seizures or increased side effects, leading to loss of employment, driving licence, educational opportunity, serious injury and, in the most severe cases, death, and that consistent effective treatment should not be altered on questionable cost grounds.”

Thank you!!

Fun with Wii Fit

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I have to admit something… I lent our wii fit setup to a friend in the spring, and since we got it back it has been sitting in a corner gathering dust. What a waste of an expensive bit of kit that actually makes it fun to get a bit of excercise!

So it was with a very apprehensive feeling I put on my joggers yesterday, and wiped down our balance board, popped in fresh batteries, and loaded up the game. I was certain that it was going to scold me for putting on weight and being absent, so you can imagine how amazed I was when it actually congratulated me on losing several pounds! We’ll brush over the part where it told me I hadn’t been on it for 166 days!! Ouch, naughty Zoe neglecting it since March!

However, our summer busy busy busy madness is beginning to lessen now & so it was with renewed resolve to “give it a go” that I sweated my way through an entire hour of wii fit last night! I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was smashing my previous personal bests on my first go. I enjoyed it, but I think the 30 minutes (over 2500 steps!) of “free step” whilst watching Project Runway have taken their toll – my leg muscles have been aching all day! I guess that’s what you get when you do an hour of muscle workouts & aerobic excercises and ignore the much more relaxed balance games & yoga!

Wish me luck in my quest to get a bit healthier! I’m going to try to eat less rubbish (which will save money too), but I’m not going to deny myself the stuff I like & be miserable! Our diet has improved in the last few months already so I need to concentrate on perservering with wii fit. I’m pleased that I’ve been losing weight with just a few diet change though. It doesn’t bother me too much, being overweight, but I would like to lose some just so I am healthier for the future.

Oh, Bum

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

I am not a happy bunny tonight, I spent what seemed like an eternity of time curled up in pain on the stairs earlier. It was probably only about 25 minutes, but it felt like forever.

I’m out of remission, it’s cluster headache time in my life again. If I didn’t try to keep my language clean on my blog I’d be swearing a lot right about now.

Poor James, I think I worried him a bit. I was banging my head on the stair rails and the wall quite hard, and digging my nails into my skin. Couldn’t stop moving either, it’s kinda impossible to sit still with that much pain going on. At least he was out of the room when I was thumping my head as hard as I could. Felt like my eye was on fire, argh :(

Not happy that I’m in for a couple of weeks of hell at random times. Gah.

My first 101 in 1001 update

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

I don’t even officially start my 101 in 1001 until tomorrow, and I already feel motivated to get on and get some things crossed off my list!

1. Pass my driving test: We have put me on the car insurance (starting mid-June), so that I can begin practising my driving again with a view to taking my test later this year. I failed it a few times last year and decided to take a break after the wedding to generally de-stress and get over the nerves a bit! Now seems to be the time to get back on the horse.

24. Complete my scary dental treatment: I’ve got a date for the first stage of the dental work & will book the time off at work tomorrow. I’m due to get sedated at the beginning of August – it’s further away than I would have liked, but at least it’s this summer!

52. Take advantage of the free theatre tickets for young people & go see something at the REP: This is a brilliant scheme run by the Birmingham REP Theatre, which allows 14-26 year olds free tickets on Friday nights to see any show. James, Carly & myself are due to go an see Once On This Island on Friday 5th, a reggae Caribbean twist on the fairy tale story The Little Mermaid’. It should be interesting!

81. Paint the master bedroom, 82. Paint the second bedroom, 83. Paint the living room/dining room: We have been to FOCUS today and picked colours, measured all the rooms we want to paint, and worked out prices to do everything we want – we just have to get the landlord to give us the go ahead to do it :-). Hopefully it will be a good summer project for us. At the moment we love our house but the decor is terrible – the living room is painted with 5 different shades of lilac, all not quite the same as each other – but not different enough to be done on purpose as a feature! The bedrooms aren’t much better, with peeling wallpaper, again painted rather randomly! Hopefully we will repaint the walls, ceilings & all the woodwork in all four rooms. It’ll be quite a big job but we have all summer to do it, and no holidays planned :-)
