My first 101 in 1001 update

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

I don’t even officially start my 101 in 1001 until tomorrow, and I already feel motivated to get on and get some things crossed off my list!

1. Pass my driving test: We have put me on the car insurance (starting mid-June), so that I can begin practising my driving again with a view to taking my test later this year. I failed it a few times last year and decided to take a break after the wedding to generally de-stress and get over the nerves a bit! Now seems to be the time to get back on the horse.

24. Complete my scary dental treatment: I’ve got a date for the first stage of the dental work & will book the time off at work tomorrow. I’m due to get sedated at the beginning of August – it’s further away than I would have liked, but at least it’s this summer!

52. Take advantage of the free theatre tickets for young people & go see something at the REP: This is a brilliant scheme run by the Birmingham REP Theatre, which allows 14-26 year olds free tickets on Friday nights to see any show. James, Carly & myself are due to go an see Once On This Island on Friday 5th, a reggae Caribbean twist on the fairy tale story The Little Mermaid’. It should be interesting!

81. Paint the master bedroom, 82. Paint the second bedroom, 83. Paint the living room/dining room: We have been to FOCUS today and picked colours, measured all the rooms we want to paint, and worked out prices to do everything we want – we just have to get the landlord to give us the go ahead to do it :-). Hopefully it will be a good summer project for us. At the moment we love our house but the decor is terrible – the living room is painted with 5 different shades of lilac, all not quite the same as each other – but not different enough to be done on purpose as a feature! The bedrooms aren’t much better, with peeling wallpaper, again painted rather randomly! Hopefully we will repaint the walls, ceilings & all the woodwork in all four rooms. It’ll be quite a big job but we have all summer to do it, and no holidays planned :-)

Another day in the life of me

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Well, work has been incredibly boring today. There have been about 5 phone calls this afternoon, and none of them have been for me. I’ve had about 10 emails, none of which actually required anything doing. I’ve caught up on my paperwork, done some unneccesary work, and got my teeth stuck eating a toffee. Hopefully tomorrow will be more eventful, or possibly not.

Maybe this evening will be nicer. I was hoping to walk Homily after work but the way the sky has behaved today, it’s looking doubtful. She doesn’t like to get her fur wet and makes a big deal about going outside in the rain. And that’s just the dog – I refuse to go paddling in our local park in the rain. Besides, my favourite trainers leak, and my new ones aren’t broken in yet!

Can anyone who uses netflix tell me what they think of the service? I’m thinking of subscribing for longer than my free trial, but I’m interested in the game rental as well as the films. It intruiges me! Reviews, suggestions, comments, anyone?

I have my driving test this Friday, but I don’t feel too nervous about it – I think it’s because if I let myself get jumpy then I know I’ll screw up, so it’s a ‘what’s the point’ attitude to getting nervous. I think I drive well enough to pass, as long as I have no weird & wonderful moments in the car during my test. My manouvers are spot on, it’s just junctions and roundabouts I don’t like!

Ooooh, just got this email from my wedding dress people: “Your measurement form is received. Your dress is in process now and will be delivered to you around 25 working days.” YAY. In other wedding news, I’m not wearing my engagement ring because it’s off being polished and replated – we dropped it off at the jewellers whilst choosing our wedding rings :D. We’re going to order them when we pick them up (though I’m currently deliberating between 18ct and 9ct white gold, as my engagement ring is 18ct – but I’m fairly sure that I’ll wear my engagement ring on my right hand after the wedding, cos I don’t think I’ll like wearing two rings on one finger). It is very weird not to be wearing my ring though, my finger has a groove in it and I keep going to fiddle with my ring to find it missing. Also, we’re off to the registry office on Friday to declare our notice of marriage – basically to declare that we want to get married.

More and more plans are being made to make my life busier and busier. I’m off to the Royal Cornwall Show on Saturday, while I’m at my parents. Becky & Seb, and James & I are off to Drayton Manor on the 21st and they will be staying at the flat for the weekend. Also, and very exciting for me, James was a sweetie and we’re off to see the Britain’s Got Talent Live Tour in a fortnight :D :D. Woo. AND Becky has invited us to go see Dylan Moran in October. Busy busy busy bee.

Anyway, I think I’ve rambled on enough. Bye :)

Probably?

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I am currently infuriating James by replying to everything he says with the word ‘probably’, or a variation on the theme. What can I say? I’m in a silly mood all day. :D

Been feeling a bit rubbish today, a combination of stress, heat, headache and PMT. I was good though and didn’t submit to cravings of bad food too much, other than a splurge with my friends Ben and Jerry.

My driving lesson went well, did my first ever emergency stop which went brilliantly, even if I do say so myself! Messed up a reversing round a corner because I was reversing around a corner with a drive on the corner and the guy who lives there wanted to go up his drive so I had to get out of the way sharpish! Nailed the second corner I tried though, bang on. It was quite amusing actually, there was another learner out doing corners and they came up to my first corner and waited a bit, then drove off when they saw how insanely busy it was.. then while I was reversing around the second one lo and behold there they were again – so they drove past with such an evil look at me & Paul! They managed to find a corner further on though, I passed them as they were messing it up.

Aww, James & Homily just dozed off simultaneously, with James curled up around the dog, who is curled up in a ball – cute pair! The snoring coming from both of them kinda detracts from the cuteness however!

Anyway, I was going to write this post to talk about my new website – which is still a work in progress! I’ve been playing with new design concepts, so take a look and let me know what you think. There isn’t a massive amount of content yet, mostly just this blog & a half made gallery. Some bits and pieces need changing, but I’m fairly happy with how it is going. I’ve put my contact details on the blog there as well, if you want to email me your opinions, or just if you wanna chat and haven’t got my contact info!

There are some neat bits to the site (I think), the lifestream on the blog is quite cool as it shows my activity on the web pretty well, and I’m running the latest version of wordpress which has some new cool features – some of which I’ve yet to put into play. If you want the best experience, then browse happy and have the latest flash installed (it’s necessary for the inline music player to work – and you should keep your software updated anyway :P)

I should toddle off to the land of nod now. Goodnight! :)

Sunshine :D

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

So, is everyone loving this sunshine? What gorgeous weather we’re having here, all over the UK. I’m off to the Peak District on Saturday with James & some friends, which should be great. A nice relaxing picnic, Homily will enjoy a day out. And benefit from it too, greedy pig, she’s been getting a bit podgy this week. Really looking forward to the weekend :D

I loved this weeks Apprentice episode – very dramatic boardroom! Annoyed that Claire is still in, she annoys me SO MUCH. But I reckon that Sir Alan has a soft spot with her, otherwise she’d have been long gone by now. I thought Jenny was MEAN so it’s good she went – I can’t believe that she tried to cheat with the tennis racquet thing!

Work has been stressing me out a bit today and so I was all hot & flustered – owie headache results. Bah. Stupid people making stupid trouble. That makes more work for Zoe – I’ve been dealing with three very similar issues ALL day that are SO frustrating. Grrrrrrrrr.

Anyway, must dash – I have to go drive around in circles for an hour!
