Hi all, just to let you know that there are a few changes afoot on my blog, with the addition of ‘Asides’ and “Friends Only’ entries.

Asides

These are just small entries – links to things I find interesting, or small little thoughts. You can comment on them, but when they are displayed on the front page they don’t have a title, date, etc – just the entry. Like twitter, but on my blog & sometimes even more than 140 characters!

Friends Only

One thing that I miss about my old Livejournal is that you lose the sense of privacy that comes with friends only entries. I used to love the freedom of writing a blog entry that you know only your friends are going to see – not just some random person that stumbles across your blog.

For example, with a completely public blog you have to be careful never to badmouth your workplace, even after a really long & stressful day, because you never know who knows about it (Hi, Hayley!). I don’t want to get fired – so I’m fairly careful to never post any rants about work, even when I’ve had a bad day that is mostly about me being an idiot all day & not really anything to do with anything at work!

And so, I’ve found a plugin that simulates LJ’s friends only function – if you want to see these entries just register as a subscriber & I will grant you access to the Friends Only category if I know you! When I post a Friends Only entry it will still display on my blog if you are logged out, but there will be a little note letting you know that it is Friends Only – you’ll see this in the feed as well.

FYI, for my Livejournal friends – these posts will still be crossposted, and set to be Friends Only over there instead
