Tweetie by atebits

Yet another twitter app, Tweetie is the only one I seem to get on with. I have tried several others – all the ‘big name’ ones, and have encountered various problems. From bugs & crashes, to silly things such as just not liking to UI at all. Tweetie, however, seems different. So far I haven’t had a single crash, and the only bug (a problem with image caching) I have found is being dealt with by the developer – as soon as apple allows the update, anyway! And it just looks likean iPhone app. Some of the others I have tried are designed well, but just look out of place. Tweetie fits in perfectly with the native applications, and acts like them too – intuitive touches which make it a pleasure to use. This app was such a relief after the others I have tried – my twitter usage has doubled since I found an iPhone app that I enjoy using.

Byline by Phantom Fish

I like google reader.. I just can’t help myself. It works flawlessly at work, at home, and now on my iPhone. I tried the webapp for this but didn’t get on with it (though I must admit I haven’t tried the new version), and I also wanted to be able to sync & then read articles offline. Byline is a good looking app which does the job well. There are useful features, such as being able to share & star items, and email links. After trying unsuccessfully to use NetNewsWire, it was a relief to find a solution that worked for me, and worked with google reader.

MMS by Ross McKillop

If you have an O2 iPhone and have been sent an MMS message, you’ll know that retrieving your message using mobile safari is a bit of a pain – why oh why don’t O2 have a better iPhone optimised website for this?! Anyway, this app retrieves your messages for you, and also allows you to save photos to the camera roll – always useful! You can also send MMS messages using this app, though you have to buy credits for this feature.

Cycorder by Saurik (requires Jailbreak)

There are two reasons that I jailbreak my iPhone after each update, and Cycorder is one of these. Cycorder turns your iPhone into a surprisingly decent video recorder, which will record .mov files using the camera. Although the video capability is limited by the frame rate of the camera, I have been happy with the videos I have recorded. Cycorder is easy to use, though retrieving the videos requires having SSH access to your phone. Anyway, I’ll let the video’s speak for themselves..
