Looking forward to the weekend!

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

The last two weeks have been fairly quiet, apart from my headaches being worse than normal there isn’t much to report. Work has been slow, my web design project is pretty much finished, and I haven’t been up for doing a great deal of anything because of my head being so bad! So, I’m happy to report that it seems to have calmed down to my normal pain levels which are ignorable, on the whole, and so I’m not feeling quite so worn out as I have been.

Instead, I’m feeling rather excited.. Tomorrow evening James & I are going to watch Pride & Prejudice at the REP theatre, starring Susan Hampshire (I love her!!). We were able to get free tickets through the ‘A Night Less Ordinary‘ scheme, which is a fantastic scheme running all over the country providing free theatre tickets for under-26′s. I recommend that you get yourself some tickets through the scheme & get yourself some free entertainment!

Pride And Prejudice

If that wasn’t exciting enough, we’re off to County Sligo in Ireland on Saturday for a long weekend to visit Anthony & Jen (my father-in-law & his wife). It is our first visit since our trip over for their wedding in 2007 so I’m really looking forward to exploring the area a bit more. It will be really nice to spend some time with them as well, as we don’t get to see them an awful lot due to the slight inconvenience of them living in another country! We fly back on Tuesday afternoon – it’s my first time flying with ryanair – we managed to get ultra cheap £1 flights (with a £5 booking fee for every ticket!).

I’ll be off the grid for a few days, as I don’t particularly want to rack up any data roaming charges on my iPhone – no doubt I’ll be blogging about what we get up to when we get back. :)

List Love

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Everybody loves a good list. At least, everybody with my level of OCD organisational tendancies does, anyway.

Whether you are a list freak or not, there is no denying that lists are a very useful thing. You can use lists for keeping track of things to do, stuff to pack for a trip, people you need to email, information you need to remember, random information, and thing you love… pretty much anything really.

And of course, you can write silly lists too. I just finished reading a book called ‘Brighter Than The Sun’ by Julia Quinn, and the main male character writes some very silly lists, with titles like ‘Qualities in a Wife’, ‘Reasons Why Ellie Should Seduce Charles’ and ‘Worse Things that Could Happen to Me’ (than losing his fortune). My favourite list from the book is ‘Activities to pursue with wife’ , which goes something like this:

  1. A ride and picnic in the countryside.
  2. Revisit the tenants as a unified couple.
  3. A trip into London. Ellie needs new dresses.
  4. Teach her to write her own lists. They can be devilishly entertaining.
  5. Take her to the seashore.
  6. Kiss her until she’s senseless.
  7. Kiss her until I’m senseless.

Here are a few lists of my own…

A List of Lists: Lists I’m using/writing at the moment

  • 101 in 1001 – a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days. I’m doing ok at this one, though I’ve let a few things slip for various reasons.
  • Stuff to pack for Ireland – We’re going for 3 nights on Saturday, and it’s a bit of a challenge because we are only allowed 1 piece of cabin baggage each with strict size & weight restrictions! Eeep.
  • Christmas present list x 2 – one of things to buy people (in my moleskine), one of things I would like (amazon wishlist).
  • Todo list x 2 – I always have one ongoing at work (in a notebook), and one ongoing at home (on my iPhone).
  • Stuff I want to buy – a list of things I need to buy when I have the money, like new glasses & a new keyboard for my MacBook. Oh, and a Magic Mouse for the iMac.
  • Shopping list – I use the ShopShop iPhone app to keep track of things we need to buy at the supermarket, either in the next week, or when we do our big monthly shop at the end of each month.

Stuff I’d Love to Happen Someday But Probably Won’t

  • My headaches stop completely.
  • My headaches improve a lot.
  • Win the lottery.
  • Own a top of the range MacBook Air.
  • Buy a lovely big house with a huge garden (we might be able to afford a house one day.. but not a big one with a huge garden!)
  • Own a Mazda RX-8
  • Work for Apple (I got an interview once at the store, but it wasn’t enough hours, bah)

Do you use lists for anything?
